Fall 2016 was a better time for us Game of Thrones fans. We’d just ended on a VERY high note with “Battle of the Bastards” and Cersei blowing the Sept and everyone inside it (RIP Queen Margaery) sky high. It was fun. It was exciting. It was why I committed to making my very second cross stitch project THIS monster of a nerd piece for Nick’s birthday present that winter.
Little did 2016 Emily know this project would take her almost as long to make as it takes George RR Martin to write a novel. ALMOST.
Honestly, I would love to be able to do a write up about how much I enjoyed making this mo-fo, but I barely remember making half of it. I can’t even COUNT how many many times I had to run out and purchase one of the 20+ colors of floss scattered throughout these banners. It didn’t matter that I double (and triple) checked each time as I left for Joann’s that I had a complete list of all the colors that I needed, I somehow always managed to find a color I still didn’t have. And don’t even get me started on the backstitching or french knots!
Do I love it despite all the challenges I had making it? 1,000 percent and so does Nick. And that’s what matters here. Is it perfect? Nope. I can point out at least 10 things wrong with it (starting with I should have used white Aida). Would I stitch it again? Hard no.
The only thing I’ve left to do on it is to frame it. So to my fellow cross stitchers out there, I’d love to hear from you any recommendations on how we go about displaying this thing for all the world to see.
